Do you remember when you canned for the first time? Admittedly, I remember my first experience and was a little nervous about making a mistake. I feared that either I was going to poison my family or blow up my kitchen. I remember in the back of my mind wishing I had a friend to walk me through the canning process.

Authorblogger, and Master Canner Sharon Peterson has found a way to be that friend and has written a book with limitless knowledge on how to can what you grow. Her writing style is very friendly, patient and thorough. Her book, Simply Canning, breaks down all of the information you need to know before you begin, gives you an in depth breakdown of the different canning processes, provides tips along the way, and provides pictures every step of the way. This was what I was wishing for when I first started canning. Although I have been canning for many years, there was still information and tips that I learned from this book.

My favorite part of the book comes after she has taken you through the informational breakdown – the recipes. Like the good canning friend that Sharon is, she has included some of her favorite canning recipes in the book to help us start canning our favorite foods. Some of these recipes include: fruits, jelly and jams, pie filling, pickles and relishes and canning vegetables and meat. And, of course, there are beautiful pictures that make your mouth water.

As a whole, this book was easy to read, is helpful to both the beginner canner and gives insight to the seasoned canner. I would highly recommend this book to my friends and family. Before the canning season begins, pick up this must have resource to help you make the most of your canning experience.
