We have covered the topic of preparedness for a nuclear war before, but we have not discussed immediate actions to take within the first hours that such a nightmare becomes a reality. First, let us mention again Cresson Kearney’s work “Nuclear War Survival Skills,” and downloadable from the internet. It is the end-all, be-all for information on preparedness for a nuclear war.
Learn How Tactical Gas Masks Can Save Your Life
The topic for this article is immediate actions to be taken when nuclear war presents itself; however, stress and emphasis must be made on preparations beforehand. You want to garner all of the supplies possible beforehand and prepare a fallout shelter before the football game kicks off. This will cut down on the scrambling when it all comes about. There will be enough confusion in the works, and you don’t need to make any more for yourself through a lack of readiness by not having supplies you need in place. Let’s cover some basics questions you need to answer for yourself and your family.
- A Plan: you need a plan to “kick into action” immediately, depending on where you are…at home, at work, or traveling. This plan needs to take into account what you’ll do if your engine dies (from the EMP, or Electromagnetic Pulse), for example, and you’re still five miles from home.
- “Rounding Up the Tribe”: How will you gather your family together? Do they know the plan and are they both on board with it and prepared to act in accordance with it? You need an ORP (Objective Rally Point), so to speak: a place to meet together in one location, if for the purpose of consolidating and traveling back home together. This family preparedness guide for nuclear disasters is a great primer to get started.
- Assessing the Targeted Areas: this must be done beforehand, and if you are in a targeted area susceptible to attack, you better be prepared to move out of it.
- Personal Protection from Radiation: (in accordance with your assessment of how much radiation there will be) Do you have Geiger Counters (radiological survey meters), dosimeters, and a suit and mask to protect you from the radiation? If so, how will you get to them/into them when it occurs? What about supplements for radiation poisoning if you are exposed?
- [We’re using a “Shelter in the Home” Scenario]: OK, you made it home. Now, do you have backup measures in place for the loss of electricity that will occur? Do you have a shelter where you can “hole up” for at least the next three weeks to a month? Is it defensible? Can you effect such a defense while radiation is still at a dangerous level? Let’s review what needs to be in the shelter:
- Food and water supply for all members…at least six months’ worth
- Medical supplies and equipment
- Shielded electronic supplies (radio, night vision devices, etc., shielded until it is safe to expose them with no threat of EMP) in Faraday cages.
- Weapons and ammunition to defend yourselves
- Tools and materials to repair or replace components of the shelter
- Equipment to monitor radiation levels inside and outside of the shelter
- Sanitation and hygiene measures (people don’t stop going to the bathroom or needing to clean themselves regularly)
- Books and reading material: survival oriented, and also for a diversion
- After the exchange has halted: What will you and your family do then? Remain in place, or head for new ground?
- Stay alert: Keeping a watchful eye on the news and any threats on the horizon will keep you ready to react at a moment’s notice.
There won’t be a lot of time for action. Hopefully, you’ll be at home, and able to take steps from there. Such steps can include (but are not limited to): covering all of the basement windows with dirt, and if you have a basement or sub-basement shelter, securing all parts of it prior to relocating into it with your family. You’ll already (hopefully) have your supplies ready and in position, but you can also run the water and fill up as many containers as possible to take down with you. Same with food: any canned or dried goods that you can move from the upstairs into the shelter will be money in the bank for you later.
There’s never enough blankets and clothes: stock some of these down in your shelter. Pets are a big consideration that we’ve covered in a previous article. You’ll have to provide for them if you do indeed intend to save them. Special needs members of your family, such as infants and toddlers, the elderly, and any family member with a medical condition…you need to provide for those needs well in advance.
Especially for them, you want to load up on whatever supplies you need to take care of them and move any equipment or supplies that you can manage for them into that shelter. After the war commences, there won’t be any more deliveries of those necessities. Research Cresson Kearney’s work and put these measures into place…stocking up on the supplies you need and coordinating all of your initial actions with your family prior to the arrival of that fateful day. Hopefully, none of these measures will be needed, but if they are, it will give you a better chance if you determine them and implement them beforehand. Stay in that good fight! JJ out!
YOU FOOKIN’ MORONS…. ALL YOU’LL NEED IS PINE BOX…. THIS IS BEYOND IMBICILIC.
If you are in a targeted area, you won’t have to worry about EMP, because you won’t be around to see anything but the flash, and if so, it will be too late to take the potassium tablets. If you need to cover the basement windows, they’ll already be gone. If you have radiation poisoning, it is too late for supplements to prevent it. Faraday cages are so rare that very few have ever seen one unless they work with portable communication devices. If the exchange has ended, you did a good job of avoiding a target zone, and it will be just as good as a fallout shelter. What will be your source for news if all of the electronics were killed by EMP? Unless you have a level 4 containment suit, it is best to stay in the shelter until the fallout cools off. It is probably too late to worry about any of this that you haven’t already prepared for if Trump does anything else stupid.
The odds of you or your family surviving this thing coming are slim and none, and even if you did, you would be sorry. When Damascus is turned to rubble it will usher in world war3 and most in the world will regret it, But some will get the ticket they deserve so enjoy the ride.
This reminds me of when we were told by our teachers to get under our little desks and ” duck and cover ” in 6th grade during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In other words………we were dead meat.
yup…I remember all that…
The best defense is to be in a country that will not be involved in a nuclear exchange. You have to do this before a war.
well, WHERE do we GO, Roddy? And who will pay our way?
Look at a map of the world or a globe or Google earth. Find countries that don’t have nuclear arsenals and are unlikely to be involved in a nuclear exchange. There are many where life is fine. If you have to ask how to afford it, you are dead meat. You don’t have enough money to survive in the US. Travel to other countries and check them out.
Gee…you’re a BIG HELP to us… most of us ARE dead meat, you fookin moron…HASBARA ALERT…this pea brain is an ISRAELI DISINFO GENT!!
Uruguay, Paraguay, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and a lot of other places probably won’t change much in a nuclear war. In WWII, when Europe was killing 50 million of its citizens, people were dining in fine restaurants and going to the opera in Argentina. There is always a place where life is good.
yeah sure…but you need the $$$ to GET there..and the $$ to STAY there forever…and you need to SPEAK THE LANGUAGE… you have lived a very sheltered life, haven’t you? You don’t live in reality.
I lived in America for 65 years. I moved to China. It’s a great life here. I travel all over. In the last two years I have been to South Korea 4 times, Hong Kong twice, Thailand, all over mainland China, back to the States for a visit, and returned to China. I don’t think I am sheltered. In case of a war, you will die from lack of money, ambition, desire to live, and sheer lack of imagination. You will be just like the millions of Jews who didn’t leave Germany before the shit hit the fan. Hopefully, you haven’t had kids yet, and have not soiled the gene pool.
and you are eating dogmeat…
Sorry to disappoint you, but I live in a beautiful seaside city next to mountains. We have clean air and a fishing fleet that brings in fresh seafood daily. The city is clean, safe, modern, and has excellent public transportation, so no need for a car. Keep believing how bad the outside world is and never leave your trailer park. You are a Good Citizen.
goody goody for you,, aren’t you the smartiepants Jew…
Not hardly. You are wrong about everything. You need to stop typing and talking.
dogmeat
This may be good advice for dealing with a limited number of nuclear strikes or a limited nuclear exchange where only a handful of targets are hit by nuclear weapons, but if there is an all out nuclear war where every nuclear weapon is launched to achieve mutually assured destruction, there will not be anywhere to hide from the nuclear fallout, most major cities will be reduced to smoldering parking lots, and after the radioactive dust settles, there won’t be any salvageable resources left to live off of. Very few people will be left, and most of them will likely be the scumbags who started the war in the first place. They will likely know ahead of time that they are going to push the button and unleash hell on earth, so they will already be heading to their deep underground bunkers to wait until it’s safe to come out. And it is likely to be these horrible people who get to live on while we are vaporized by the nuclear weapons. And at that point the human race will be doomed by these lowlife politicians and criminals.
Missiles will be incoming for many months or even years after the main exchange to eradicate the leaders when they come out from their rat holes.
This guy assumes you have disposable income.
If you don’t, you are disposable. Try to change.
