Thanksgiving In a Can

Nothing says the holidays like the gathering of friends and family. And at any gathering,
food is the centerpiece for these holiday festivities. Planning to have food for the holidays, even in a short or long term emergency is something to think about. Not only does holiday foods provide nutrition, but will also carry on traditions and be a morale booster in harder times.

Thanksgiving is a time for being with family, looking back on fonder times and giving thanks for the blessings we presently have in our life. Food is the centerpiece of that nostalgia. In a SHTF situation, no matter how meager the meal is, we will be even more grateful for those blessings that we have in our life.

As preppers, we are planning for the future. Some of us have put thought into how to carry on these special traditions even in the wake of a short or long  term emergency. As many of us are investing our hard earned money into dehydrated and freeze dried foods to store, some have gone a step farther and started storing foods to use for these blessed holiday family occasions.

You can easily create a Thanksgiving meal for a large group by stocking up on some #10 cans. Purchasing 6 #10 cans of assorted dishes will give you enough food for 90 servings – what a family meal that will make! Get creative on your favorite holiday dishes and even in a grid down emergency, all you need to re-create them is to add water. Nutrition and essential proteins are combined with flavor and tradition, making this a tasty substitute for the real deal. This is, without a doubt a great investment and something to be thankful for.

After all, long term food storage would not be complete without Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner! Some holiday favorites are:

  •  #10 cans of diced turkey
  • #10 cans of mashed potatoes
  • #10 cans of instant chicken gravy
  • #10 cans of super sweet corn
  • #10 cans of cinnamon apple slices
  • #10 can corn muffin mix
  • #10 can green beans
  • #10 raspberry crumble

Alternately, these cans can also be used for future meals and baking, so nothing goes to waste. Happy eating!
