About Ready Nutrition and Tess Pennington

My name is Tess Pennington, and I am the founder of Ready Nutrition.

I’m a mom. I have three kids and live on a 5-acre farm complete with chickens and a garden. Living a natural, homegrown life has always been important to me. I want my kids to understand how food is grown and ultimately, how they don’t have to rely on stores for resources. I feel that one of the greatest gifts we can do for our children is to empower them to do things themselves.

So, how did I find myself on this natural life path?

After graduating from college, I joined the American Red Cross in 1999. Seeing that the Red Cross had contingency plans for everything, I realized how important it was to be prepared. On 9/11, my Red Cross Chapter became the headquarters for dealing with the aftermath of that American tragedy.  Within a few hours, a command center was set up, volunteers came in by the droves, and we were ready.  I suppose you could say that was a defining moment in my life. I admired this organization’s forethought to prepare, and it influenced my decision to put my own disaster plan into place.

My journey through preparedness led me to a passion for natural living. My family and I moved from our comfortable suburban neighborhood to a rural town hugging the edge of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The area is full of fresh air, good people and quiet solitude. We grow organic vegetables and herbs for tinctures. I raise chickens for the fresh eggs and believe in repurposing items.

It has taken me years of small changes to find a lifestyle that compliments my passion for a more sustainable and healthier lifestyle. The articles at Ready Nutrition have helped me document my growth and my hope is that we can learn, share and find insight together.

Please feel free to contact me any time with thoughts, ideas, tips, and suggestions.

My thanks to you for visiting Ready Nutrition.

Come back soon!

Sincerely,

Tess Pennington

Tess thanks for teaching how to prep. I’d like to know if there is more land to be purchased where you live and the average price of that land. Do you know of any other land opportunities closer to San Francisco? Please let me know.

      Hi Car,

If I were you, I would wait a little while until the prices for land are lower. Many believe the real estate bubble will pop soon and that’s when you will have a better opportunity to invest in land.
