A Very Prepper Christmas: Gifts You Can Really Use

As preppers, we want to be ready for what life throws at us – be it illness, off grid living environments or a TEOTWAWKI event. We want to ensure that our loved ones are cared for even in their darkest moments, and nothing says “I love you” quite like a prepper gift.

So, without further adieu, here are some gift ideas that will melt the hearts of any prepper out there.

Essential Oils Kit $20.00

This is the perfect gift to give the homesteader. Essential oils can be used for a wide variety of needs including soap making, tinctures, topicals, breathing treatments, and much more. Adding a few drops to a spray water bottle will help you naturally add a pleasing smell to your home too. Ensure that you get medicinal grade essential oils. I like Mountain Rose Herbs essential oils because they are certified organic and support the sustainability projects.

Titanium Escape Ring $70.00

Thinking of giving jewelry to your special someone? Why not make it practical gift. This titanium ring is equipped with a shim that can be used to open single-locked handcuffs, as well as a saw to can easily cut through zip-ties, rope and other non-metallic materials. This stainless steel tool is 2″x18″x1/64,” and reviews indicate it is unusually flexible. Give the gift that ensures your loved one can evade capture or saw your way out of a problem.

Kelly Kettle $79.00

This little 13 oz. stove is great for camping trips, used for your bug out gear or good for your off grid tools. The Kelly Kettle has a stainless steel base and is efficient in heating food and boiling water. For around twenty dollars more, you can get the complete Kelly Kettle kit.

Mason Jar Oil Lamps $25.00

I came across these in a forum one day and love how practical they are. If you are practicing a self-sustainable lifestyle, then you more than likely have an ample supply of mason jars lying around. The lamp lids fit a regular wide mouth canning jar and comes in a pack of 4. All that’s needed in some lamp wicks and a glass lamp chimney and you’re all set!

Pressure Cooker $210

One of my favorite gifts from my husband was a pressure cooker and I have put it to good use over  the years! Not only can you use them for canning, but the food you prepare in them are so delicious and take half the time to cook as compared to other cooking methods. I highly recommend the All American pressure cookers, but I have also heard wonderful things about the Presto brand as well.

Further, Victorio fruit peelers and food strainers make excellent additions to the canning gear. Anyone who has ever had to strain seeds out of berries will thank you for this thoughtful gift.

Heirloom Seed Kit $50

One year for Christmas gifts, I bought ceramic pots and had my kids decorate them for family members. Then, I added a homemade heirloom seed kit filled with the 10 easiest seeds to grow. My entire family put those seeds to good use and are still producing vegetables from them. This heirloom seed kit has over 5,000 heirloom seeds and produced enough food for a mid-sized family.

Prepper Books $10

There are some great prepper fiction books out there as well as non-fiction. Whether your favorite prepper is into the economy, fiction, cookbooks, off grid living, there’s a book for them. Check out Amazon or Barnes and Noble for a complete list. Some of my favorite books I have on my shelf are:

Rolls of Coins

For those of you who have family members interested in wealth preservation, this is the gift for you. Roll up a stack of dimes, quarters or other valuable coins with some festive tissue paper and add it to your prepper’s stocking or place it under the tree. Coinflation has a list of valuable  coins and how much they are currently worth. All you have to do is head down to your local coin dealer or visit JM Bullion, a leading online precious metals dealer and wrap up the gift that will never lose its purchasing power.

Homemade Family Album

What better way to show you care than to create a photo album of past family members, memorable events, etc. This is one of those gifts that takes time but is very meaningful. With the strides in technology, you can easily print many of these past pictures from your computer. The cost is dependent on the album and the amount of photo paper your purchase. To go an extra mile, you could also download all the pictures on a flash drive. This will ensure that you have a backup of precious family photos in case you have to bug out.

Let’s not forget other noteworthy prepper gifts such as lifestraws, flashlights, multitools, survival knives (some of my favorites are from KA-BAR), water filtration systems, solar battery chargers, wheat grinders, and walkie talkies.

Not matter what type of prepper you are shopping for or what stage they are into with prepping, there is plenty of options available. To gather other ideas, check out the 52 Weeks to Preparedness which has 52 different lists of prep items you can gather ideas for. Happy shopping!
