The global energy crisis is worse than anyone thought it could get. It will have long-term consequences going forward for all of us.
Has anyone noticed how high gasoline prices are lately? And that isn’t the only problem, that’s just the one we, the general public can see and experience on our own. But around the world, energy, in general, is really hard to come by right now.
There is such a dramatic energy shortage that some provinces in China are rationing electricity, Europeans are paying sky-high prices for liquefied natural gas, power plants in India are on the verge of running out of coal, and the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in the United States stood at $3.25 on Friday, which is up from $1.72 in April, as reported by MSN.
An energy crisis and shortage as winter approaches could be catastrophic for anyone left unprepared. If you live in a cooler climate and experience harsh winters, make sure you have some kind of off-grid backup heat source. A wood-burning stove is a great option.

Some say the energy crisis is being done on purpose, others say it’s just all a coincidence and things just continue to stack up on the tail end of the pandemic. Either way, there’s a shortage and we all need to take heed and make ourselves as prepared as can be going into this winter.
Across the ages, in every survival story, a disaster of some sort plays a prominent role. Sometimes the part is played by the government, sometimes it is played by Mother Nature, and other times, the role is taken on by a random mishap. If we have learned one thing studying the history of disasters, it is this: those who are prepared have a better chance at survival than those who are not. A crisis rarely stops with a triggering event. The aftermath can spiral, having the capacity to cripple our normal ways of life. Because of this, it’s important to have a well-rounded approach to our preparedness efforts. Due to the overwhelming nature of preparedness, we have created the Prepper’s Blueprint to help get you and your family ready for life’s unexpected emergencies.
As mentioned in The Prepper’s Blueprint, preparing now is essential. We should all be ready to gas up our fuel tanks and stay home for long periods of time while we conserve the fuel we have. That means boosting our storable water and food supply. We also need to be able to go long periods of time without electricity. Again, that means having a backup source of heat as well as batteries (for flashlights) and extra candles on hand.
The best way to do this is to act like you won’t have electricity for the entire winter. If that’s the case, how much wood would it take for you to keep your family warm? How much water would you need (to wash clothes, yourselves, give to your animals, etc. Not just to drink) for the whole winter? How much food do you need and what are your plans to cook it without an electric stove?
Reducing your reliance on the grid and becoming more self-sufficient is the key to getting through these times a little more comfortably. Do the best you can, learn, try things, and do what you can now before the energy shortages hit the United States hard.
