Tradition is the essence of Christmas. It is the time of year when we are closest to our loved ones. It’s a time when we remember those who are gone. It’s a time to take heart and remember the gifts that our elders passed on.
Generational recipes are gifts meant to be passed down to the next line of family members. As we share these recipes, we also share the memories, the stories, the life lessons and the laughs that came along with that recipe.
Lisa Egan, writer for Ready Nutrition, shared her grandmother’s gift of cookies with all of us to use for sweet desserts, gifts to neighbors and friends or just to sit and indulge in the season.
Every Christmas, Lisa’s grandmother would make 15 different kinds of cookies. As Lisa says, “On Christmas Eve, we’d arrive at her house in New York, give her and our grandfather a big hug, and run to the kitchen to sort through the tins she stored the goodies in.” Special thanks to Lisa for sharing her family’s recipes. They are truly a gift!
